Even more ideas for 'Kevin Can Wait' season 2 by me, a genius TV executive DATE: 2024-10-05 14:19:51
CBS announced in early August that Erinn Hayes' character Donna in Kevin Can Wait would be DEAD when the show returns in season 2. The move, defended as being "right and fair" by an executive producer, is a means for the show to integrate Kevin James' King of Queenscostar Leah Remini into the cast. Mashable is proud to have another CBS executive's take on the situation.
Hello, I am an executive at CBS and I'll just come out and say it: killing Kevin's wife in the lighthearted comedy show Kevin Can Waitand replacing her with Leah Remini was literally our only option.
If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you. Yes, our family sitcom was the number one new comedy on television, but the writing was on the wall: if we did not canonically murder one of the primary characters, the show's ratings would begin to decline. Now that Donna is gone, Kevin can undertake any number of new, goofy single father/widower storylines that would have been otherwise impossible. Trust me, I've been in this business for a long time and I knowwhen a character needs to die.

Kevin will face the funny and relatable situation of finding new friends as an adult, after his are murdered by a serial killer
The masked killer Gemini will come for them all.Credit: mashable composite; cbsPolls have shown that fans are HUNGRY to see Kevin struggle through relatable 2017 issues like making friends as an adult. Frankly, I LOVE the idea of Kevin bumbling through awkward encounters with potential new buddies, and I have a great way to make it happen: Kevin's longtime group of best friends will all be murdered by the masked killer Gemini, a Long Island serial killer. Of course, we won't focus on the deaths, we will simply begin the second episode of season 2 several months after Gemini has committed his heinous act. Jerry Stiller, James' King of Queenscostar, will star as Kevin's new friend Vic.
Kevin will be forced to try wild 2017 food trends after his favorite restaurant Enzo's burns to the ground and all inside perish
By taking everything from Kevin, we are increasing the opportunities for fresh new laughs.Credit: mashable composite; cbsIf you're alive in 2017, you know that "foodies" dominate the media. Food trends and modern trendy cuisines are a huge audience draw, but unfortunately Kevin -- being a blue collar Long Island retiree -- doesn't have reason to try new things. That's why season 2, episode 3 will take place a few weeks after a devastating oil fire consumes his favorite restaurant Enzo's (featured heavily in the first season) and takes the lives of all inside. Once his favorite location has been destroyed and all of his acquaintances horribly burned until they are dead, goofy, stuck-in-his-ways Kevin will have to try a SUSHI BURRITO!
Patton Oswalt, star of King of Queens, will portray a weirdo restaurant owner.
Kevin will become politically activated after his children are drafted to war and go missing during a battle at sea
Kevin's two daughters, son and daughter's fiance are all conscripted for war after the president begins using the draft. They go missing, and we meet up with Kevin 4 months later.Credit: MASHABLE COMPOSITE; CBSIt's tough to have a show in 2017 and not somehow touch on politics, but thus far Kevin Can Wait has been largely apolitical. That will all change in season 2, which will take place 4 months after the president within the KCWuniverse reinstates compulsory military service and begins a ground war overseas to which ALL of Kevin's children (including the underage children and Kevin's future son-in-law) are drafted. During the time jump, Kevin's children go missing after a hellish and historically significant battle at sea. It is, of course, a devastating event and not at all funny, but the show will pick up 16 weeks after it happens and Kevin will say goofy stuff while reading the newspaper. The probable death of his children in war is the only way to have this fun newsy element happen! Trust me!
Gary Valentine, of King of Queensfame, will portray Kevin's adopted son Henry.
Kevin will join an adult intramural softball league after his beloved New York Mets all die of a new disease called "Terminal Death Rash"
Kevin loves the Mets and for that reason, and that alone, they must be terminated.Credit: MASHABLE COMPOSITE; CBSI think it would be hilariousand very crowd pleasing if Kevin joined an after-work softball league on Long Island; so the show will have to kill off the full roster of the New York Mets including the mascot Mr. Met. As a lifelong fan, Kevin loves to watch and root for the Mets. Therefore, he has zero reasonas a character to play any team sport while the Mets still live within the show. The Mets will contract a new, horrific illness known as "Terminal Death Rash" and their death, along with the other tragedies in Kevin's life, will surely cause him a massive, almost unbearable amount of grief. We will acknowledge and respect the time it would take his character to heal by beginning the fourth episode of season 2 about 30 days after the devastating loss of the MLB team.
Victor Williams, a series regular on King of Queens, will play the coach of the intramural team who is also a former Met.
Kevin will face the unknowns of the afterlife following the death of himself via accidental electric shock
It is the only way.Credit: mashable composite; cbsIn order for the show Kevin Can Waitto achieve its full ratings potential, the character of Kevin must die. Of course, being a family comedy, we will not show this on screen and will instead pick up episode 5 of the second season about 20 minutes after Kevin's demise. Kevin, now dead, can still picture his accident, replaying it over and over in his mind like a broken record -- his body unable to move; glued to the live wire he touched while showering as his flesh and bones roasted like a chicken for hours. Kevin will meet the ferryman Charon, the transporter of souls from the world of the living to the world of the dead and upon his boat, Kevin will make a deal with the noble Charon to live out his eternity in the King of Queens universe.
Kevin will wake up the next day as Doug Heffernan, and then we'll just do King of Queensagain.
